LOYOLA UNIVERSITY NEW ORLEANS ANNOUNCES HISTORIC RETURN TO NCAA COMPETITION THROUGH GULF SOUTH CONFERENCE MEMBERSHIP

NEW ORLEANS 鈥 蜜桃视频 today announced that Wolf Pack Athletics has been accepted as a member of the Gulf South Conference (GSC), a Division II conference of the NCAA, effective Fall 2027.

The Gulf South Conference's Presidents Council voted to approve Loyola's membership, marking the University's historic return to NCAA competition for the first time in more than five decades. Loyola previously competed in the NCAA before dropping athletics in the 1970s. Upon joining the Gulf South Conference in Fall 2027, Loyola will begin the NCAA Division II membership process and, pending successful completion of the NCAA's two-year provisional membership period, is expected to achieve full NCAA Division II membership by the 2029-30 academic year.

The move positions Loyola as the only NCAA Division II institution in Louisiana and reflects the University's continued momentum, growing national profile, and commitment to providing an exceptional student-athlete experience grounded in Jesuit values.

"This is a transformative moment for 蜜桃视频 and for Wolf Pack Athletics," said Loyola University President Dr. Xavier A. Cole. "This move reflects our institutional growth and the direction we are heading as a university. We are continuing to elevate Loyola on the national stage while deepening our commitment to our students, alumni, and community. Returning to NCAA competition aligns with our mission and our aspirations for the future. We are investing in opportunity, infrastructure, and most importantly, the student experience, ensuring that Loyola remains a destination for students seeking excellence in academics, athletics, and personal growth."

The Gulf South Conference currently includes member institutions across Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee. Loyola will become the conference's only Louisiana institution and joins Spring Hill College as one of the conference's Jesuit Catholic member institutions.

"This has been years in the making and represents a defining moment in Loyola Athletics history," said Brett Simpson, Assistant Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics. "We are proud to return Loyola to NCAA competition while building on the extraordinary momentum our student-athletes, coaches, alumni, and supporters have created in recent years. This moment honors Loyola's athletics tradition while positioning us for an incredibly exciting future. The move allows us to continue growing competitively while remaining grounded in the authentic student-athlete model that defines Loyola, where academic excellence, athletic achievement, and personal development go hand in hand."

"Loyola New Orleans represents everything we look for in a Gulf South Conference member institution," Interim Commissioner Tommy Sadler said. "This moment reflects years of commitment and leadership from Dr. Cole, Brett Simpson and their team, as well as former GSC Commissioner Matt Wilson. Loyola鈥檚 addition strengthens the conference geographically and competitively while bringing in an institution whose values, aspirations, and student-centered approach align with those of the GSC."

Fifteen of Loyola's 22 athletic programs will compete in the Gulf South Conference. Beach Volleyball and Swimming will compete as NCAA independents. Rugby, Cheer, Dance, and Esports will compete in other national organizations.

The announcement comes during a period of significant investment and growth for Loyola Athletics. In 2025, Loyola Athletics received an anonymous $1 million lead gift to support renovations and modernization efforts at the University Sports Complex, launching a broader $4 million campaign focused on the future of Wolf Pack Athletics. Planned improvements include upgraded locker rooms, expanded strength and conditioning facilities, sports medicine and recovery spaces, enhanced game-day experiences, and new technology designed to support student-athlete wellness and performance.

The transition represents both a return to Loyola's NCAA roots and a bold investment in the future of Wolf Pack Athletics. The move is expected to strengthen Loyola's institutional profile, expand opportunities for athletic recruitment and enrollment growth, increase philanthropic support, and deepen engagement with alumni and the broader community.

Loyola Athletics has experienced unprecedented success in recent years, including conference championships, national tournament appearances, record-breaking seasons, and growing national recognition across multiple programs. The University also continues to expand opportunities for student-athletes, including the addition of rugby in 2026.

Grounded in Loyola's Jesuit mission and commitment to cura personalis, care for the whole person, the move reflects the University's ongoing investment in developing students who excel academically, athletically, and personally while preparing to lead lives of purpose, service, and impact.

Course Objectives & Goal
The three credit MPrS Capstone Course serves as the culminating academic experience of the graduate program. Students integrate knowledge acquired across their selected certificate programs with professional practice by designing and completing an applied project or paper addressing a real-world challenge in their field. Through applied research, critical analysis, and professional communication, students demonstrate mastery of program-level learning outcomes.

Course Objectives & Goals
The one credit course is designed for Loyola online graduate students to enable them to more fully understand the learning process in an online environment and to reflect on their own learning and educational journeys as adult learners. The online education experience comes as a culture shock to many students, hence the goal of this course is to equip Loyola graduate students with knowledge, skills and habits necessary to navigate their online academic experience successfully and enhance their critical thinking skills.

Students will learn about theories of adult learning and development, growth mindset, and research-based strategies to be successful as an online learner. They will also discuss technical particularities of online education. Students will be encouraged to critically reflect on how these theories apply to their own learning, academic and personal goals. Readings will primarily come from the fields of adult education and psychology. The course will also draw from our Jesuit identity through reflection, respect, and appreciation, aiming to enrich the educational experience at Loyola.

What Is Social Justice in the Catholic Tradition?

Rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Catholic Social Teaching, and the Jesuit tradition, Social Justice Ministry at 蜜桃视频 cultivates faith, community, service, and advocacy in pursuit of right relationship with God, one another, and all of creation.

Jesus鈥 ministry reveals a God who stands with the poor, heals the excluded, welcomes the stranger, and calls people into deeper relationship and community. The prophets continually cry out against oppression and demand justice for the widow, the orphan, and the foreigner. Catholic social justice is therefore not simply charity or service, though both are essential. It is also the ongoing work of transforming social, economic, political, and cultural structures so that all people can flourish and participate fully in society.

In the Jesuit tradition, this work flows from prayer, reflection, and discernment. Social justice is rooted in a faith that does justice and calls us to become people for and with others. Through prayerful reflection and action, we seek to find God in all things, especially in encounters with those on the margins and in the needs of our world.

Catholic Social Teaching develops this vision through principles such as the dignity of the human person, solidarity, care for creation, the common good, participation, and a preferential option for the poor and marginalized. These teachings invite communities to confront injustice, work for peace, protect human rights, and accompany those whose voices are too often ignored.

As a Jesuit institution, this mission is shaped by the Society of Jesus's Universal Apostolic Preferences. We seek to:

show the way to God through discernment and spiritual depth,

walk with the excluded, and those made vulnerable,

accompany young people in creating a hope-filled future,

and care for our common home.

Social justice in the Jesuit tradition is rooted in faith and expressed through action. It calls us to reflection, solidarity, advocacy, and courageous hope. It invites us not only to serve others, but to learn from them, stand beside them, and work together for a more just and compassionate world.

Loyola University Community Action Program (LUCAP)

LUCAP is Loyola鈥檚 service and social justice program rooted in the Jesuit tradition and inspired by Catholic Social Teaching. Open to all students and guided by the Minister for Social Justice, LUCAP invites the Loyola community to engage in meaningful service, reflection, advocacy, and relationship-building in response to the needs of our local communities.

Through direct service opportunities, justice initiatives, educational programs, and community partnerships, participants encounter the realities facing our local communities while responding with compassion, solidarity, and hope. Whether serving alongside local organizations, participating in awareness campaigns, or engaging in conversations about systemic injustice, LUCAP encourages students to connect faith with action and become active participants in building a more just and humane society.

At the heart of LUCAP is the conviction that faith and justice belong together. We believe service is not about 鈥渉elping others鈥 from a distance, but about walking with communities, listening deeply, and recognizing our shared human dignity. Through reflection, discernment, and action, participants are invited to grow as people for and with others while working collaboratively for the common good.

Our Commitments

Guided by Catholic Social Teaching and the Jesuit mission, LUCAP is committed to:

Human Dignity
Recognizing the sacred worth of every person and fostering relationships rooted in respect, compassion, and belonging.

The Common Good
Working toward communities where every person has access to the conditions necessary to flourish.

Solidarity
Standing with those who are marginalized through accompaniment, advocacy, and shared action for justice.

Care for Our Common Home
Responding to ecological challenges through sustainability, environmental justice, and reverence for creation.

A Preferential Option for the Poor
Centering the voices and experiences of those most impacted by injustice and inequality.

Get Involved

There are many ways to become part of the LUCAP community:

Participate in service and justice initiatives throughout the year

Join volunteer opportunities that build community and raise awareness

Grow as a leader through reflection, dialogue, and action

LUCAP students are more than volunteers. They are companions, advocates, and leaders formed by the Jesuit commitment to be people for and with others. Together, we seek to create a world marked by justice, compassion, and hope.

The Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice (IFTJ) is an annual gathering of students, educators, advocates, and members of the broader Jesuit community committed to living out a faith that does justice. Sponsored by the Ignatian Solidarity Network, the conference brings together participants from Jesuit high schools, colleges, universities, parishes, and organizations across the country to learn, reflect, pray, and advocate for social change.

Grounded in the Jesuit tradition and Catholic Social Teaching, the Teach-In invites students to deepen their understanding of issues such as racial justice, immigration, environmental justice, economic inequality, human dignity, and peacebuilding. Through keynote speakers, workshops, community dialogue, prayer experiences, and advocacy training, participants are challenged to reflect on how their faith calls them to respond to the realities of injustice in the world.

At 蜜桃视频, participation in the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice is an opportunity for students to engage the broader Jesuit mission beyond campus while building community with others committed to justice, solidarity, and hope. Students are encouraged to connect reflection with action by learning practical advocacy skills and participating in conversations that inspire meaningful social transformation.

In the spirit of Ignatian spirituality, the Teach-In emphasizes discernment, accompaniment, and finding God in all things. Students return with a deeper understanding of justice, a stronger sense of community, and renewed commitment to becoming people for and with others.

Through prayer, education, advocacy, and solidarity, the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice reminds us that the work of justice is both deeply spiritual and deeply communal, calling us to build a more compassionate and hope-filled world.

Ignacio Volunteers (Iggy Vols)

The Ignacio Volunteers Program offers students the opportunity to encounter the world through service, solidarity, reflection, and community. Rooted in the Jesuit tradition and inspired by the life of St. Ignatius of Loyola, Iggy Vols invites students to step beyond the classroom and form meaningful relationships with communities, both locally and globally.

More than a service trip, an immersion experience is an invitation to transformation. Through shared living, community partnerships, prayer, reflection, and education, students are challenged to examine the realities of injustice, listen deeply to others' experiences, and discern how they are being called to respond in faith and action.

Participants travel, serve, learn, and reflect together as one community. In the months leading up to each immersion, students gather regularly for formation, dialogue, and preparation focused on the social, political, economic, and spiritual realities connected to the communities they will encounter.

Immersions emphasize accompaniment over charity. Students are invited not simply to 鈥渉elp,鈥 but to walk alongside others with humility, openness, and a willingness to learn. Through these encounters, participants deepen their understanding of solidarity, community, and justice while discovering how faith calls us into relationship with the world.

Our Mission

The Ignacio Volunteers Program seeks to form students who are:

committed to service rooted in justice and human dignity,

attentive to the voices and experiences of marginalized communities,

open to personal and spiritual transformation,

and prepared to live as people for and with others.

Core Values

Service
We place faith into action through compassionate presence, generous service, and a willingness to listen and learn with open hearts.

Solidarity
We seek to walk with communities rather than act for them, recognizing that authentic justice begins with relationship, mutuality, and shared humanity.

Community
We believe transformation happens together. Through shared experiences, honest reflection, and supportive relationships, participants grow in compassion, understanding, and a sense of belonging.

Spirituality
Grounded in Ignatian spirituality, we reflect on where God is present in our experiences and remain open to the diverse ways people encounter meaning, faith, and hope.

NEW ORLEANS, LA. 鈥 蜜桃视频 has joined the Sullivan Network of Schools as a Sullivan Award Institution, connecting the university to a distinguished tradition that recognizes and develops students whose lives reflect service, humility, leadership, and character.

With this designation, Loyola joins a distinguished network of more than 70 colleges and universities affiliated with The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation, including institutions such as Vanderbilt University and the University of Virginia, all committed to cultivating purpose-driven leaders and changemakers.聽

As a Sullivan Award School, Loyola will be eligible to present the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award and Mary Mildred Sullivan Award, among the nation鈥檚 most respected collegiate honors recognizing individuals whose lives exemplify noble character, generosity, and service above self.

The partnership also opens the door for Loyola students, faculty, and staff to participate in a wide range of Sullivan Foundation leadership and service initiatives, including the Ignite Retreat, Sullivan Fellows Program, Service Corps Internship, Study Abroad opportunities, and the Impact Prize competition.

鈥淎t Loyola, educating the whole person means preparing students not only for professional success, but for lives of purpose, leadership, and service to others,鈥 said Provost, Thomas Chambers, Ph.D.,聽鈥淥ur partnership with the Sullivan Foundation reflects and strengthens our Jesuit mission by creating even more opportunities for students to lead with integrity, compassion, and a deep commitment to the common good. We are honored to join this respected network of institutions dedicated to forming servant leaders.鈥

Steve McDavid, president of The Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation, said Loyola鈥檚 values and mission make the university a natural fit for the Sullivan network.

鈥溍厶沂悠 represents the kind of institution the Sullivan Foundation is proud to welcome into this tradition,鈥 McDavid said. 鈥淭he Sullivan Award has always been about more than recognition. It honors lives of character, humility, and service, and it invites students to carry those values forward in practical ways. We look forward to working with Loyola to celebrate students who serve others and to connect them with opportunities that help deepen their leadership, purpose, and contribution.鈥

Founded on a century-long tradition of service-centered leadership development, the Sullivan Foundation offers immersive programming designed to help students translate values into action through leadership retreats, service experiences, entrepreneurial initiatives, mentorship, and global engagement opportunities.

Among the programs available through the network are the Sullivan Ignite Retreat, a leadership development experience focused on changemaking and purpose-driven growth; the Sullivan Fellows Program, a multi-year leadership initiative grounded in collaboration and community impact; and the Sullivan Impact Prize, which awards up to $10,000 to student-led ideas addressing real-world challenges.

The Sullivan Awards trace their origins to 1890 and honor the legacy of Algernon Sydney Sullivan, a lawyer, philanthropist, and humanitarian known for using his talents and resources to help those in need. Today, the Foundation continues that legacy by investing in students and institutions committed to service, ethical leadership, and community impact.

For Loyola students, the partnership represents another meaningful opportunity to engage deeply with the university鈥檚 Jesuit tradition of becoming 鈥減ersons for and with others鈥 while developing the skills and experiences needed to create positive change in their communities and professions.

Every March, New Orleans Entrepreneur Week brings together the people building the future of this city: founders, investors, students, business leaders, and community members who believe New Orleans has something to offer the world.

This year marked a new chapter. After helping bring The Summit to Loyola's campus in 2025, Loyola University's Center for Entrepreneurship & Community Development (CECD) served as sole producer in 2026, building on that momentum and helping guide the event's next phase of growth.

Loyola hosted more than 1,400 founders, investors, students, business leaders, and community members on campus over two days in March for The Summit during NOEW 2026, one of the largest Summit audiences in recent years. Across the full week, more than 2,800 people participated in NOEW events throughout New Orleans, reflecting the growing momentum of the region's entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Watch the NOEW 2026 Recap

Mayor Helena Moreno joined attendees on Loyola's campus to discuss the future of entrepreneurship in New Orleans. Loyola voices were woven throughout the program, with faculty from the College of Business, College of Law, College of Music and Media, and the School of Communication and Design helping shape conversations throughout The Summit. Loyola alumni moderated mainstage discussions and led workshops. Eighty-five Loyola students volunteered their time, and many stayed to make connections and experience firsthand what it looks like to build something in this city.

A Jesuit university brings a distinctive perspective to conversations about entrepreneurship and innovation. At Loyola, entrepreneurship begins from a different question: not just what are you building, but who does it serve and what does it leave behind?

That perspective was evident throughout The Summit. Students shared space with founders. Investors sat beside first-time entrepreneurs. Community leaders exchanged ideas with faculty, alumni, and business owners. Conversations that began in classrooms continued in hallways, networking events, and informal gatherings across campus.

For many attendees, this was their first introduction to NOEW. In fact, 62% of Summit attendees were attending the event for the first time, demonstrating the event's growing reach and Loyola's role in welcoming new audiences into the entrepreneurial community.

NOEW returns March 8鈥13, 2027, with The Summit returning to 蜜桃视频 on March 11鈥12.
